Based on original historical patterns but adapted for a more comfortable fit, the average corset is constructed using 3 layers, a silver or gold plated busk to fasten the front ,18 metal spiral bones and is laced through metal eyelets to ensure a perfect fit ,with the optional ability to reduce your waistline by 7 inches!

The Design Process – Bespoke service
Firstly I offer each client a free consultation. All of my designs are completely unique as is each customer,therefore we sit together and talk about how you see yourself in your dress,your likes and dislikes, colours and detail etc. You may have a design already in mind or you may want to bring together several ideas into one dress. Alternatively you can give me a few ideas about your personality and character and leave the rest to me to research and design! At the same time we will talk about fabrics and trim ideas that are possible and even consider the accessories you may want to opt for as this so often encapsulates the total Look and reflects the passion behind a bespoke gown.I have a large range of the finest silks and laces sourced from the very best suppliers in London and other centres in the U.K. I also keep a creative portfolio of photographs to inspire and help you in your choice of gown. We can then have a second meeting to discuss cost and detail. Essentially having a bespoke gown made to measure isn’t as expensive as one would imagine, it really depends on the fabrics and trims that are carefully selected. The price of a bespoke gown can compete with a dress that is purchased ‘off the peg’.

Progression of your Design
Following the design process and after taking detailed measurements, I will then proceed to make a toile (an early version of the finished gown in bleached calico) ensuring the correct fit and design is attained. At this stage a fitting will take place. Following the fitting of the toile we will then focus on any design adjustments required . This is an ideal time to experiment with details, ie the neckline, fit and length etc. This allows maximum flexibility. The next time we meet the gown will be constructed in the fabric of your choice although still not finished , as even in the later stages occasionally the fit of the dress may need tweaking .

Upcycling – Something Old, Something New…
As well as Alterations to your bridal gown there are other options… I can embellish or change elements of your dress to make it unique. We can discuss ideas together and source trims and additional fabrics to enhance the design.
You may have a gown you have inherited or discovered in a flea-market or Vintage fair for example. The garment may need some tender loving care. It may need repair , alterations made or renovated so that you are using elements of it , especially if it has sentimental value.
Alternatively you may discover a second hand or Vintage dress that needs re-building, updating or simply enhancing with new lace or beads. All of which are possible.
A Corset is constructed out of very small pieces of fabric and can look stunning made out of recycled fabrics or garments… Perhaps an old previously worn wedding dress.
Alterations
To a Gown already purchased as part of my alteration service I can guarantee a made to measure fit by altering the gown of your choice and you would never be able to tell!
